Hello! I’m Gail O’Neill

Thanks for visiting my page. It’s been my privilege and pleasure to serve as Councillor in Division 14 for the past four years. If you are new to Division 14 as a result of changes to electoral boundaries, WELCOME!

Since 2016, I have worked and fought hard to deliver my election promises, including the completion of the Tugun to Bilinga Oceanway, a valuable community asset that brings immense benefits to residents and visitors. I have initiated upgrades to many deteriorating roads and footpaths in Division 14. Parks, playgrounds and foreshore facilities have been upgraded. I have also funded new footpaths in key areas.

Through public consultation I have initiated a Masterplan for Coolangatta/Kirra. I have worked closely with State Government and police on problems that concern us all: homelessness, hooning and speeding. I have been able to assist with positioning Council ‘Smiley Faces’ and CCTV units in hot spots.

I regularly attend community meetings to meet residents and provide information or updates on developments. I will continue to oppose inappropriate urbanisation in Currumbin and Tally Valleys.

And this is just a snapshot of what I have achieved over the past four years.

Moving into the future, my goal for Division 14 is, and always will be, to strike a balance between the preservation of our beaches and hinterland, good, sustainable development and economic stability for local business.

I am passionate about our most unique part of the world. Protecting our enviable lifestyle will always be my priority.

If elected on 28 March, I will:

  • Continue to be the strong voice of Division 14 in protecting beaches, waterways, foreshores, hinterland and parkland
  • Campaign for further amendments to the City Plan that strike a balance between progress and lifestyle
  • Continue to work closely with police and government on issues that affect the people of Division 14
  • Continue to support and encourage major events including Cooly Rocks On, Swell Sculpture Festival, Quicksilver Pro, Coolangatta Xmas Carols & NYE Fireworks, surf lifesaving carnivals and family-friendly events
  • Advocate for better public transport including the Light Rail extension to Coolangatta via Gold Coast Airport
  • Strengthen existing relationships and develop new connections with community and sporting groups, local schools and residents

As a resident and ratepayer, you deserve good leadership. On 28 March, put your trust in a strong, experienced and knowledgeable representative who has already made an impact in Division 14 and will continue to fight for you, and the lifestyle you deserve as a resident.
