Hello! I’m Gail O’Neill

Thanks for visiting my page.  It has been my privilege and pleasure to serve as Councillor in division 14 for the past eight years.   If you are a new resident to this Division, WELCOME!

Since 2016 I have worked and fought hard to deliver my election promises, including the completion of Tugun to Bilinga Oceanway, a valuable community asset that brings immense benefits to residents and visitors to our beautiful Southern Gold Coast.  I have initiated upgrades to many deteriorating roads and footpaths in Division 14 and parks, playgrounds and foreshore facilities upgrades have been a priority for me.

Through a public consultation process I initiated a Masterplan for Coolangatta/Kirra with completed projects such as the upgrade of BBQ and shelter on Kirra Hill and Centre Improvement project in Griffith Street.   Projects funded and are now in progress for Coolangatta include Stabilisation of Kirra Hill, manufacture of an exact replica of the Kirra Eagle sculpture.

I initiated a project to widen the Oceanway between Currumbin Alley carpark and Gold Coast Highway.   The business case for this project has been completed and received favourable public consultation and will now move to seek funding from both Council and State Government.

I regularly attend community meetings to meet residents and provide information or updates on projects and developments in our area.    I continue to oppose inappropriate Currumbin & Tallebudgera Valleys and I continue to advocate for Council to acquire land for conservation in both of these areas

My goal, as it has always been for Division 14, is to strike a balance between the preservation of our beaches and hinterland and good sustainable development and economic stability for local business.

I am passionate about our most unique part of the world.  Protecting our enviable lifestyle will always be my priority.

  • Continue to be the strong voice of Division 14 in protecting beaches, waterways, foreshores, hinterland and parkland
  • Ensure that the City develops a new City Plan in accordance with the extensive public consultation already received
  • Continue to work closely with police and State Government on issues that affect residents including introducing legislation to increase safety for users of our many shared pathways (i.e. speed of electric bikes and other devices)
  • Continue to support and encourage sporting and other events to be held in Division 14, e.g.  Cooly Rocks On, Swell Festival, WSL Surfing events, Usher Cup, International & National Beach Volleyball, Beach Rugby, Christmas events (Coolangatta Xmas Carols, Tugun Lights Up, Currumbin Xmas Carols, Mingle Jingle in Tallebudgera Valley and numerous surf lifesaving carnivals)
  • Continue my support of Not for Profit groups, including Surf Lifesaving Clubs, Sporting, Neighbourhood Watch and other Community organisations.
  • To continue to advocate for more efficient public transport for Southern Gold Coast including heavy rail to the Gold Coast Airport and Light Rail extension to Coolangatta
